I know this is way off the topic in a fish forum but i need all the help i can get with this.
    :mad::mad::mad::mad:
There have been alot of dogs poisoned in Secunda, this is an on going thing they poison all the dogs in a street and then a day or two later houses in that area get broken into.
I have alot of friends who have lost pets due to this and i can't help but wonder if my baby will be next, needless to say i keep her in doors at night and then first check my yard for anything out of the ordinary before letting her out.
What i'm planning is drawing up a petition and to get it out nation wide, i will be calling for the ban of aldicarp, two step and any other name the product goes by. All these products are manufactured by Bayer, but there is no control of who may buy these products [ Government is suposed to regulate these things ] but any Tom Dick or Harry off the street can buy such dangerous poisons.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Just 5 granuals of this stuff can kill a large dog within a half hour. 5g can kill a rhino, and it doesn't stop there if you then handle the poisoned meat or the animal it gets absorbed through the skin and you can also die. I know of a Secunda resident that simply cleaned up her dogs vomit after it had passed and she ended up in intensive care.
To start off i would like to know if it is happening in other places aswell and some stats would be nice.
Any ideas or info, anything would be welcome.

What is this world coming to????????????????
Stories like this make my blood boil.
Luckily for me, I don't know of this happening where I stay.
What I would suggest is some type of neighborhood watch to try to find the !@#$%^&ers doing this.
Sort them out yourself before calling the SAP, and tell them that they resisted arrest.
Oh yes, maybe give them a taste of their own medicine.

What are these products normally used for?

I agree with Darryn on this it just Ticks me off to hear that they can just kill the animals like that and not even feel a thing about it... if you find the people that are behind this beat the crap out of them and then hand them over to the cops.

The products are use for poisoning jackals ect. [i might be wrong] and for treating certain crops. These products have been banned in many countries because of the secondary poisoning the also occurrs with their use.
These guys are all over and there's not just one lot of them, it seems as if this is the in thing with criminals these days, for everyone that gets caught theres ten others also doing it.
Apparently the stuff can be bought in the taxi rank right here in town, the cops know this and do nothing to stop it.
I must say Darryn it's good to know that it has not reached the cape yet [pray it never does]

I was wondering if i could email the petition to some of the form members so that they could distribute them for me. I would ideally like to get one to every vet and every petshop and any other place, over the whole country.
I don't know if one person can make a difference but i would sure like to try.
Any ideas on drawing up a petition what info should be included ect.

Please even if there is nothing happening in your area yet, help me to get the petitions out there. Lets stop this before it speads. Just imagine if this stuff finds it's way into our river systems the devestation there will be not just loss of animal life but humanes aswell.
Some people are not taking their animals to the vet for correct dissposal of the bodies, they are just taking them to the munisipal dumps, alot of wildlife is also being affected. So please please help.
    Thanks

i will be Happy to get this out in the public. Living in the Pretoria Garsfontein area. We have had a few cases of this happening. Its very sad. We have been held up by 6 guys as well. Luckily they only kicked our Bullterrier so she recovered from her injuries. and 2 weaks ago we had another guy breaking in but we saw him and i chased after him and fired a warning shot. we have a community patrole thing called garscom and within 10 min 80 cars were there looking for the man jumping over the houses. (every house has a walkie talkie ) we found him . But wow the Police *&^%^%$#$ him up in 3 different vans. But he threw away most of what he stole like my GPS and phone sadly. I cant stand animal abuse

Best is to train your dogs to only accept food from its owner. Banning one product wont be a solution as there will always be a replacement product to sedate or even kill the dog.

I bought a Tiberius Arms T9 Elite paintball gun and replaced the paintballs with rubber balls and pepper balls, set the fps to 280 (Legal limit is 180 - 200). One shot with a rubber ball will tear open the flesh and create tremendous amount of pain ...I'm sick of all this crime in South Africa and if we as a community arent going to do something, no one will.

Little known fact to home-owners, but very WELL known fact to criminals.

A Simple spray of "spray-'n-cook" into the dog's face kills them within 5 minutes.

    Rattex also kills.
Ant Blue death does the same.

We can't take one product off the market... they will simply move onto the next.

Zoom i do understand your point and i agree that they will just go on to the next product but the things you are talking about don't also kill the owner of the dog or at the very least cause them to be hospitalized just by touching any of the excretions from the animal, not to mention the fact what if that person flushes the vomit, poop ect. our water gets recycled what garantee do we have that non of this will end up in our drinking water.
The people who do not burn the carcases of their animals and just dump them are putting alot of other animals and people at risk, surely such a product should at the very least be properly regulated so that not just anyone can by it.
I know that asking for a ban on it is probibly going overboard on my behalf but i do feel that something needs to be done about such a dangerous poison.

My dog is my pet and unfortunately i live in a flat in someone elses yard, the only use of outside space i have is a small patch of grass infront of my flat against the road. I am looking for somewhere else to move to but money dictates the kind of accomodation and it is not easy to find places that allow pets.
My dog also lives indoors but she does need some outside time, luckly i'm home all day so can keep an eye on her but what about people that work should their pets be locked in all day and night

I understand where everyone is coming from.. and I really do feel for you when you guys voice you cares and opinions.

Unfortunately when it comes to dog poisonings, I also point the finger at the owners. As butcherman has so clearly asked, is your dog a watchdog, or a pet. I have found it interesting that over the past 10 years, people are moving towards keeping their dogs inside at nght, and in the back of their property during the day, and realying on a more advance early warning system called "garden beams" attached to their alarm. (notice the sarcasm). Yes, obviously you will always get the chancers, the takers, and the occassional slip ups... but that's just because we live in a world with human beings!

A Bauer, I'm not putting you down on your thread, I was just saying that taking one product off the market is NOT going to help... and then Butcherman made a very valid point!

My honest to God opinion... if you cannot afford the right living conditions for your pet, then you should not own that particular pet.
If you cannot provide a suitable running space for your dog to SAFELY live, then don't get a dog. I live on the 3rd floor flat, so I think it would be cruel to own a cat, even though a cat can theoretically be kept indoors 24/7. No matter HOW MUCH my wife wants the cat, we have agreed to only get it when we have moved into a flat with a garden. I'm not going to get an oscar, because my tank is too small for it.

Firstly my dog is a minature breed and she can easily be kept in doors, i just feel that she needs to also have out door access. I got the dog before i was forced to move to this flat five months ago, i have since then been looking for a better place. This however will not be a problem for much longer because we are moving to another town.
I was concerned about this particular poison because how freely available it seems to be and the fact that the effect of it doesn't lesson no matter how many times it gets reingested.
I still feel very stongly that poisons such as these should not be able to be bought buy just anyone.
