    Hey all.

I'm sorry for not posting but I've been a little sick.

I came home from school early today and when I got in, I noticed my Siamese Fighter was floating. He was still alive. So I put him into a separate tank and treated the tank he was in and the new one.

His fins look chapped and he looks paralyzed, only his front fins were flapping.
Is there a disease that targets these fish specifically and what is the best way to go about putting him out of his misery?

    Regards
    Firefly

Best way to euthanize him would be to put him in some water and pop him in the freezer... I know it sounds horrible, but it is not cruel. They "fall asleep" before they die.

What other fish were in the tank with him and what is the temp of the tank he is in?

They are prone to finrot and sometimes it starts at the base of the dorsal fin close to the spine. Not sure there is much you can do when it is that far.

I know this goes against my question but that is actually cruel to me. I read that putting them into a freezer or fridge (cold place) makes their nitrogen cells in their blood expand tearing the mussel. If I am wrong please correct me. And I will check my temp and turn it down if it's too hot.

Well, if that's the case, then it is cruel. But I've never ever had to euthanaze a fish before... I'm just repeating what I heard...

The thing is, with bettas, they don't do well at high temps, or at cold temps. They like around 22 - 23 degrees best. I have always found them extremely susceptible to fungus and finrot at hotter or colder temps. Their metabolism also speeds up at higher temps and they don't live as long as they should.

    Good luck.

Thanks slagter, sorry for correcting you.
I checked my tanks temp and it was around 25 degrees.

    Thanks
