So after doing some research on SAE's i am none the wiser as to if a SAE is a shoaling fish or if it is a solitary fish. i suspect that this is because of the solitary and aggressive nature of the SAE lookalikes (flying fox and the false SAE).

So what is the opinion of the true SAE keepers on the forum?

They are definitely Shoaling fish. As @Ryno, he bought some a while back and they school together.

I only keep two per tank but they definitely stick together.

ok well that is a pretty solid consensus. SAE are deffo shoaling fish according to the TASA members.

as far as i can tell, these fish do perfectly well singly or in larger shoaling groups.

I have three. if you see them shoaling together, 'playing' and interacting, then you would never keep them solitary
