Morning everyone. I'm looking for a smallish tank to breed shrimp in, not bigger than 60l. Will be nice if it has the following. Tank, stand, substrate, light, live plants, a few shrimp, heater, filter. If some of the following aren't included it's not a big problem. Please let me know with what you can help. Looking to do this tank on a budget. Please don't judge my low budget of R500-R800. I know it can be done for this price(hopefully:thumbup:) Thanks a lot guys:lol:

It most certainly can, since you don't need a heater and you can even use a 30L tank. I have had the most success with 30L tanks and breeding shrimp. Basically Take a 30L tank (Around R100) a small packet of black or light fine gravel/sand (I used play sand from West Pack R40), add a small sponge filter (+-R75) and a small air pump (+-R90). Get Some Valesanaria from a fellow hobbyist and add in some root tabs. The more plants and places for the shrimp to hide the more success you fill have. This type of tank is a set and forget type setup. Top off the evaporated water weekly and away you go. Don't forget to let the tank cycle first. Also shrimp will eat almost anything so you don't need fancy expensive shrimp food either!

I have a heater and a airpump along with pipes. I only need substrate, want those black ones that looks like pepper corns. And a tank I'll find somewhere. Then I'm sure I can pick up some plants for under R100. Then I need a light. Can I get a normal white LED or one with red in as well. And I heard shrimp are full of nonsense and will die if added to early, that's why I waqnted a complete setup. So I'll let it cycle with special blend I have left from my marine 30l startup. I'll add plants in first few days. Thankyou for the advice David

Forgot to add, throw in a cheap aquarium light from one of the many Chinese shops. I've seen them for R100

You will be surprised just how hardy these shrimp are these days. Most are locally bred now and so have adapted to South African water.

But what is the reason that I don't need a heater?
