    Looks like a male.

In my pic the female is on the left, and the male on the right.
According to my experience the males tend to have longer fins, and more colouration on the fins and tail.

Colour is a bit scarce to be a male and the fins are not quite long enough but that headshape is confusing I would go with female here

What is the fish fed and such? Stress or conditions could dampen the blues

    thanx for the responses guys.

i feed Hakari cichlid gold. but its moved to the tank about a month ago so should be settled in by now. but the lighting in these pictures isnt the greatest. need to move my light towards the front end of the tank some time. might bring out the colours more. also the blue backround doesnt really help bring out any of her colours.

Definitely male. Still young, less than a year old.

Starting to get the hump on the head, which the females don't have.

The dorsal fin that extends to past the tail, is also an indication.

    Oh, ok.

My male looks about the same size and shape and colour, and the dorsal fin extends past the tail as well, and he is not even a year old yet?

Still a good looking fish you got there, and a male in my opinion. As @Pezulu said, the fins will be more rounded on the edges, especially the dorsal and anal fin. This can also be seen on his example of his pair.

yeah thats what i was thinking as well. from my understanding the female has slightly rounded fins which he does not have at all they are quite pointy. i can maye try take a better photo sometime and move the light to the front end of the tank to show things better.

end of the day its not that serious whether he is a male or female though. itll just be helpful to know for when i get him/her a mate for the bigger tank.
