@ Johan - I do not know how to sex them.

    Question?:wondering:

Do we/The LFS get Female Malawis and Rams from overseas and/or local suppliers or do the breeders keep them to sustain their industry?

If females are available where can we get them?

Slojo - Malawi's are mostly bred locally and you can pick up fems

Rams are mostly imported - Not too many people can keep them alive - never mind breed them. The females are easy to tell apart from the males.

Malawi males Have more egg spots on their anal fin. Females have less. THis is a rule of thumb and not a science. HAd a lot of success with this method, though.

Rams - in my experience have a redder tummy area than the males. Males finnages longer and redder.

    Germa Blue Rams:
Females have that blue sheen that runs over the black dot on their bodies.
Males have a clear cut black dot with no sheen running through it.

I have seen Rams at a pet store in Parow and was in a simple setup tank, no substrate no special filtration are they really hard to keep a live. The only thing i noticed was the light was off.

Donny, Rams aren't 'hard to keep alive' - they are just really finicky about their water. Just make sure that the water is exactly the way they like it, do regular water changes, make sure the tank is completely cycled before putting them in, and you should be fine. That being said, ALOT of people have lost their Rams in the first week or so after getting them.

If you're gonna get rams be sure you do that 1/4 water change WEEKLY, not monthly! Clean the filter monthly.
