Hi guys. Im setting up my tubs.

Already got my green water culture going in a 60 liter bin, with an old HOB filter attached to it.

Want to breed some guppies, and maybe platties and maybe something else as well, not sure yet...

The tubs i will use for the fish is 150 liter stock tubs...
Will also use some air pumps and sponge filters...

Now my question, what fish will breed well in tubs, to lets say next year March till i remove them?

And what plants can i keep in the tubs all year round that will thrive?

I really want to breed out doors this year and turn our back yeard into something nicer...

Mine survives, actually do well outside during winter - but our temps rarely go below 4 degrees Celcius.

Even Anubias grow through winter here in one of my outside tanks.

@Fishlips Remember that Rustenburg is quite a bit warmer during the winter than Germiston is.
Look at something like Hornwort, which almost nobody can kill.
Anacharis / Elodya Densa is also extremely hardy, as is Cabomba.

Right, i have decided to get some bulkheads for my tubs this weekend too.

Planning on drilling them where i want the water level to be and to get a fine mesh to put in before screwing on the bulkheads. Will make water changes easy and act as overflow when we get good rain.

Update: got my tubs today for R135 from West Pack in Boksburg.
Got silicone airline tubing from petmasters and sponge filters. Reusing some old air pumps too...

Filled them up aswell, will leave the water to age.

Will get water lillies and fish month end to stock my tubs...

Also thinking of growing other plants aquatic plants too.

Should i get stability to ad in the tubs when i ad fish or will good airation and water lillies and algae be enough to handle fish waste?

Planning on stocking the 4 tubs with
Guppies mollies platties and sword tails.

Planning on doing 1 type of fish per tub.

2 males and 6 females per tub and leave them to do theyre thing.

Will also feed every 2nd day, and do water changes every week. (About 20 %)

Will be my 1st year trying it. Any further input will be apriciated.

Will upload pics in the morning.

I think cycling and aging the tubs would be about the same as a fishless cycle.
Add something to get the ammonia going, and cycle the tubs as you would a tank.

Checked the water temp in the tubs and we are sitting on 23 degrees, which is good. Day time temps are way okay.

Must just start logging water temps in the morning too. What is a safe morning temp to start adding fish?

I wouldn't start adding fish until the temperature bottoms out at about 18°C.
They are usually kept at temperatures around 26°C, and the fluctuations could be a bit much at this stage.

Then again, I have never had any fish in ponds or outside tubs, so my ramblings could be way off the mark.
