    Hi
I have just bought all the fish tanks, with a lot of equipment like chiller, external filter , aerator and lights, of a fish aquarium shop that closed down.
Now I wan't to sell the lot and keep one for myself.

Who can advice me where to start?
Got 1000L,600L,400L Tanks, plus 18 small ones 2'',4''
Some where Marine tanks, but I don't want to start with a Marine tank,
because I think there is too much involved to do it properly?
And I am a beginner in the field.

I'd suggest keeping the 1000L and if you really don't want more than one tank, get rid of the rest. :) I'd keep the largest tank to TRY and avoid MTS setting in, although this is not a guarantee that it still won't hit you.

Depending on how handy you are, you can convert one of the other tanks into a sump for the 1000L as well.

Keep one marine setup as well - set it up with coral only - use the microbe-lift products to cycle and maintain the tank. After a while ( 3 months ) add one or two fish.. You will be amazed at how easy it is if you use the Microbe-Lift products as instructed...

Keep em all :D just kidding
Don't sell them all though. Keep maybe one or two spare. You never know when MTS hits, and when you don't have the money for another tank and equipment, you might kick your own bum. :D

I would keep the biggest, and then the second biggest... so if it's the 1000 and 600l, then set it up as follows...

The 1000l set up on the top as your main display tank, (where the fish are kept), and the 600litre below it, and get someone to turn it into a sump for you. Now you have a 1600litre tank!

Don't sell any of the lighting yet, until you have had some expert advice on which ones to keep for your main tank. Then I would keep 2 or 3 of the smaller ones for:

    (1) quarantine of new fish when you get them
    (2) Breeding tanks if you find you have a pair of fish that want to breed
    (3) grow out tank for new fry.

The breeding and grow out tank should be around 3ft.

(Oh and then the rest of the stuff you can GIVE AWAY to all us jhb aquarists)

P.S Won't you pop into the new members forum, start a new thread, and introduce yourself to us...?

P.P.S some guys have ALL THE LUCK.

    MTS- Multiple Tank Syndrome.

Microbe-lift products are new aquarium products that Henk (member of this forum) is importing.

Just want to do it right, and have fun.
    Learning from your mistakes,thanks.

I remember as a young lad we had a tropical fish tank 50l at home,my brother used to maintain it,two discus, guppies, neons, zebras, sword, cleaners and some others.

But our neighbour had a 200l beauty, everybody loved to visit and was steering in his tank,dr's and loyers called on him to maintain there tank, that man was a well of knowledge and info on breading and maintaining big tanks in germany.
    That was 1960
