    Hi guys

I got a 4ft aquarium for free...When i picked it up from the plot
it has been left outside for about 3-4 years.
And to make matters worse it was used as a dustbin.

    I cannot describe the smell....

After cleaning it with sunlight liquid (i know its not the right cleaning but it was all i could find that worked) there is still a greasy white substance on the back on the inside of the tank.I tried scraping it with a scraper but it just smudges it.

It cant be silicon cos the scraper worked fine to take most of the silicon off the tank for me to reseal.

The tank did not leak but there was a few loose pieces of silicon and i decided to reseal the tank.

I dont know what chemical to use to clean or how to get it off.

If i use chemicals...How many times must i rinse the tank?

    What will work guys?

Ek se sommer nou al dankie vir die ulp.

Maybe try a weak acid first (lemon juice or vinegar for instance).

Make sure you rinse the tank well afterwards to get rid of the sunlight as well.

Mix vinegar and salt, then leave it on for a while. Just make sure you rinse it off VERY well with hot water.

Tomatoe sauce works well as well.
Just put it on and leave it there for 10 - 15 minutes.

Just make sure the water is not too hot. It's an easy way to crack the glass. :)

Adriaan did you manage to get the tank clean and if so, what eventually worked?
