    Good day all.

Turns out my new fish came with ich so all 6 rainbows, clown killis , killifish and ancistrus were infected. 1 clown killi passed the others missing, male killifish have already passed and the female looks in bad shape.

Unfortunately due to a change in laws I can only enter shopping areas and malls after a negative covid test so I had to order the fastest delivery item which was seachem paraguard. It reaches me in the next 15 Min and the issue I'm concerned about now is will they be safe on my 6 Kuhli loaches and my 1 hillsream loach. I also have some trumpet snails and 2 nerites in there.

Will they all be safe? My plan is to half dose

I think the loaches will be fine, the invertebrates though may take a hammering . Sorry to hear about the outbreak. That really is heart breaking man!

Not safe for inverts. Definitely will affect the loaches, so good idea to partial dose and build up to full strength.

Thank you. On the plus side they have confirmed to replace my order with any affected fish. Just going to wait till the tanks healed first

Thank you for this. So for my tank I need 3 caps. I started with 1 cap now, will add one more in an hour and one more in another 3 hours I think I'll keep the nerites in my overhead sump just for now and hope my kuhlis survive

Loaches can handle Paraguard without much issue in my experience (it isn’t formalin based as far as I recall), and even salt up to 2ppm for a time, the next best solution for ick.

Bummer though, good luck. Good the retailer has offered to replace the affected fish.

Don't forget to use heat as well if possible.
The warmer the water, the shorter the lifecycle of the ich

I didn't want to take a chance with salt because of the plants

Hi @Radesh. Yes I've changed 50% yesterday and will be doing 20% every second day

I've cranked the heat up to 28 that's the maximum some of my fish can handle and they seem to be okay. Only one of all my fish really has it bad. Will see tomorrow if the others get worse or better

For sure, just mention salt for reference to loaches. I had to treat my tank for Columnaris at one point (hell) and learnt a few things. Even a 2ppm salt dose didn’t harm my plants for a short term treatment.

Paraguard is great though, first medication I used that provided actual tangible results. Seachem meds in general are great.

Wow I was scared to take the risk.

Funny you say paraguard is good. I Just had a look in the tank and the fish that was the worst affected I can already see a difference. The spots on the fins remain but the ones on the Gill section is definitely gone. And I haven't even really dosed the tank yet

Paraguard definitely works for ich in a planted tank, and shrimps are even fine with it in my experience. Had to treat some ottocinclus for it in a planted tank, think wild caught fish like some Otto’s are risky.

    Thank you guys.

There is indeed an improvement noted just going to hope for the best. According to seachem they claim it's safe for snails too so hoping for the best

    @Shabir,

The Esha range is also very good.
If you can get hold of some, worth looking into

There is an anti ich and general anti parasitic formula

I'm kind of caught up with whether this is ich or epistylis. Any thoughts?
