Filtration - Alright, I was thinking of doing something really sorta odd. I have this spare little 11L hexagonal tank that I was thinking of using. I also have a 1800L/H pump which is a lot for such a mini tank but maybe it could work?

Was thinking for the filter I would have 3 chambers. First chamber would have filter sponge, second chamber would have bio-balls and stuff like that, and the third would have some more filter sponge and a small compartment for the pump? Input please and advice on if this would work or not?

Thanks guys! Hope you like the tank.

Why don't you look at getting a canister filter for this tank? I think it would be a better option than the sump for a tank of this size.

Stunning tank BTW, you lucky "fish"

    Just my 2c worth...

Yeah a canister would be the best. What else do you have in mind? Planted, malawi, ...?

    Nicely!

    Thanks guys!

Only problem with cannister is that they are ridiculously expensive and right now I have like no money, basically trying to improvise.

Fish - In the beginning I was thinking just growing my angelfish fry in there but I personally think that would be a waste of this tanks potential.

Forgot to add the tank is only 79 litres so...

Nice score! Maybe a HOB filter in the top left of the tank would work. It looks as if the bracing has already been added to allow for one.

@matteffect the angelfish fry could be a good move to cycle the tank a bit for u after its proper cycle of course? and during that time u could have plenty of time to think of good options? :)

    Thanks guys! Encouraging!

@KennyG I just don't want to risk bacteria spikes with the little ones - Don't want them to be the first fish after the cycle ( hope you know what I mean ).

    Got an idea!

You guys see the sorta top cabinet thing. It's removable and i'm able to do some customizing on it! Was thinking that I build a DIY built in top filter inside the top area.

Will post more pics tomorrow as it's getting late and show you what I mean.

+1 @Firefly I agree that a good HOB would be a good choice if you dont want to pay for a canister filter.

@matteffect The DIY overhead "sump" filter is a great budget idea and I am keen to see the pics. Just plan it properly and avoid getting water all over the place.

mts yeah! So for hood filter im thinkin u need some sort of perspex container, grating filter media and power head/pump to pump water up. Lets see the drawings.

Btw mathew 7:7 never works for me...just murphys laws...especially the one...everythin that can go wrong will go wrong :-(

Alright I thought about the hood filter a little and I actually think it could work quite well.

Took some picture and took some measurements.

    New 2.jpgNew.jpg

Alright, in the photos I have measured out the height and depth of the space that I have to use on the hood filter.
Was thinking of using some type of plastic and drilling to small holes on either side. First hole to allow the connection pipe from the pump, and second hole for the drainage pipe.
