Well I did my weekly 90% water change, and as usual scoop the fatties out and place them in a bucket while cleaning their tank. Thought I would share some pictures.

It's not cool to body shame on the internet these days:). You have to call them plus sized fish. Or something like that.

But seriously, is that the normal water change routine amongst goldfish keepers? I thought that they were bulletproof wrt water quality?

Do you have filtration or do you just do massive water changes? I think in Japan they only do waterchanges?

Yip I have a Cascade canister filter, but since Goldies being optimally proportioned (fat) also mean they tend to create a lot of waste, the general rule it seems amongst goldfish keepers is to try and do a 100% WC weekly or alternatively doing a 10% daily change. The traditional Japanese method is doing 100% per week, and some American breeders seem to be doing the same thing just keeping a sponge filter in the tank for added biological filtration.

I also noticed that with clean water they tend to grow faster and their colours is visibly more brighter, but this might be due to my feeding habits, mornings I feed them Hikari pellets, afternoon frozen blood worms and in the evenings either pea's, frozen brine shrimp or Hikari again.

This system seems to work for me, its just that sometimes I miss my tropical tank lol.

I was supposed to do a w c today. But I got some new Silver Dollars, so decided to until tomorrow, rather than stressing them too much.
