Hi i have a 2 tanks with malawi's , jewels and chinese algae eaters. one is 1200x600x600 and the other is 900x450x450 . A friend of mine said i should add add salt to the tank to help keep it healthy (aquarium salt ofcourse) , is this true ? and how much should i put in? putting salt in a frehwater tank sounds odd to me :p

Reafer, salt is a natural disinfectant and will help to keep your fish healthy.
Slowly , slowly... salt can cause havoc with the fish's osmoses...
One teaspoon per say 20 to 50 L will be enough.

thx alot , he told me to add 1kg per 1000l , that means 100g for my 100l tank which seemed overkill , how often should it be added?

Depending of the Type and amount of plants (Most don't like salt) and type of fish (livebearers like some salt) and cardinls and most tetras don't, after every big waterchange.

I would go with the 1 teaspoon per 50l - also remember salt stays behind in evaporation so unless you are doing your regular water changes do not add more salt...
