    Hi Ben...

The base that carries the benificial bacteria in BioVital is crushed zeolite,so yes...salt will react with it,leaching amonia back into your tank.. But this only happens under realy strong salt solutions...and I mean REALY strong...

Not quite getting the question, but neither salt nor BioVital will cure Whitespot... there are many medications from your LFS that will though...

Because adding salt is one of the way's of treating whitespot.

Bio elite is what i'm using now but i have to use a bottle a day as my tank is 570lt.

    Thanx

O.K... hmmn - where as salt will help a freshwater fish while under atack from a parasite like white spot, the sad news is that it will not cure white spot....

You dont mention the consentration of salt you use,but with koi - we generally dip treat koi @ a salt concentration of 10kg/1000liter(5 minute bath)... in pond we keep them at 3kg/1000l...to treat certain parasitical diseases, salt lvls get raised to 5kg/1000liter in conjunction with various other treatment chemicals, like acriflavine or ChloraminT....both wich treat whitespot well...

So,unless you have @ least 2,5 kg of salt in your aquarium, with other chemicals - the white spot is going to persist...

In my tropical aquariums i usualy just raise the temp to 30+,but as you say - tough to do in such a big tank.... look at using a product called Anti Bac from Looli locs.... Generally used on ponds,so very economical... Dosage of about 5grams per 1000liter should do the trick....

    G'luck mate!

As I mentioned in your medication post, I use 'Waterlife Protozin' to treat whitespot, as its the only med that has worked effectively for me against White Spot. All other meds I've tried have resulted in deaths, where as this one has worked very well indeed. Generally if I haven't lost any fish by the second day of treatment, normally the rest will survive (in my experience).

I have not tried those mentioned above though.

As I said in the other thread, make sure you get the dosage correct!

I would think that the Waterlife could work out expensive in that size tank, but it really is effective. One way I look at it is will it cost more than the Meds cost to restock the tank should the disease wipe out the tank. Usually, the meds work out cheaper than this by quite a margin.

    Regards
    G!
