Woke up this morning and found almost all of my Malawi's dead and expensive ones as well. What happened is that the power head that i use to push air into the water stopped working the impeller seized and the unit overheated causing the water temp to rise as well as no air into the water. I almost freaked out when i saw the dead fishes laying all over, so immediately took out the power head and it was so hot i could not even touch it,replaced with a new one and took out all the dead fish and wanted to do partial water change but had to leave for work so don't even know if the ones that was left is going to make it. Just earlier this year i lost over R30 000 of fish to to my house that burnt down and now this ai ai when will it stop. It now feels like I'm just spending money on a awesome hobby but keep on loosing more and more. Might be throwing the towel in on this one and stop all together.
Hey Bro. Thats really horrible news. I know how I would feel and my fish don't cost anywhere near yours. Don't give up. Start again slowly with something nice and small and manageable and learn/remember what it is about this hobby that you enjoy. Good luck man.
Damn !!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry to read things like this. What can one say other than STERKTE. I think that all the members will feel for you.
Lately i've been spending my money on plants. If the power goes out for a day they do not die. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about this accident, dont give up the hobby is to great to give up even after what you have been threw.
Very sad news about your deceased Malawis. And of course also sad that this will cost you money again. Our hobbies brings us so much fun (and sadness on occassion), and thus I think it is better to persist rather than to give up.
@ lydodd sorry to hear about your loss i kinda know the feeling maybe not on the same scale but i know the feeling unfortunately most of life portrays the no risk no reward scenario i have over the years lost many pets and believe me ive kept quite a few and a broad variety ive lost chameleons costing me almost a months salary and horses costing even more ive lost rats and rabbits (not even to mention the medical costs linked to those losses) but we are in a hobby for the rewards we gain from it it is a selfish obsession we maintain purely for personal gain, and usually when we take a knock we reevaluate the circumstances of that gain against the loss be it financial/emotional/physical how we proceed from there is often the most important, take care to consider carefully as the gains are often small long-term gains and the loss is more often than not a drastic, sudden, and mallproportioned in comparison, im not saying dont quit the hobby but i am saying think it through carefully dont just base your decision on the two major losses you have suffered but weigh the loss up against the investment of your time and the micro daily return on investment (joy) after loosing several chameleons i cut out and sold every thing and got gargoyle geckos and have not looked back i diddent put my hobby aside i merely changed the way i practiced it and have not looked back as humans we need to fill our time with something sometimes what we fill our lives with bring us joy other times sorrow but whats important is that we keep finding something to fill our time with good luck to you with were ever your decision leads you
