Is this possible? I am doing a rescape soon and just wanted to know if I can use co2 temporarily, just to give the plants a bit of a boost.

I don't really want to run it permanently, I thought the co2 might just help the plants a bit after doing a rescape to get the roots growing. I have never used co2 before so don't really know much about it, except that it is supposed to help with plant growth.

what co2 setup do you want to use? inconsistent co2 will cause bba

So if I run the co2 temporarily, will it cause problems or will it be fine for a little boost to the plants?

Rather don't. Fluctuating CO2 causes outbreaks of BBA. And when you have BBA, you never get rid of it.

    Rather boost with Excel.

I got BBA from C02 levels not constant from DIY C02.
Now I'm only using excel and still it’s there. So I would say rather just use Excel.

@Zoom - Any idea on how to try and get rid of BBA?

    Regards

Spray your excel directly onto the bba for a few weeks. Excell kill bba.

    what is temporary ? 1 month, 3 months ?

Co2 is great for plants - but it is not a magic tonic it is a all about a stable environment that is in balance - fertz, water quality, co2 and light - so boosting one without consideration for the others could create more issues than what one would expect.

I just wanted to use maybe a can or two of co2, after I have done a rescape, to give my plants a bit of a boost. My plants are growing well at the moment, without co2. If using the co2 as a temporary solution is going to cause more hassle than its worth, I will rather leave it alone then. Thanks for the info :)

a can or two ... as an example, a 2kg at low bubble count for 8 hours a day is lasting me well over 6 months.

Problem CO2 growth is addictive -probably to you and your plants, should you run CO2 for a few months it is possible to not after that but you will not want to do that ;-)

@f-fist - I think he may be talking about these R150 jobs, Like a shaving cream bottle, some tubing and a diffuser. You press a button and pssttttt.

Running Co2 temporarily is a bad idea because the secret to an aquarium is consistency. Aquarium inhabitants adapt to their environment so we should provide as stable an environment as possible and consistent meddling with the parameters will always prove to be problematic.
