Are these Tetra's known for being difficult to keep?

I bought 6 about 6 months ago. 5 of them died within 24 hours. I purchased another 5 yesterday as my one rummy nose looked rather pathetic all on his own.

I've just got home from work and all 5 have died.

(First batch from 1 pet store, 2nd batch from a different pet store. Both pet-stores have supplied me with very good fish in the past, so I doubt it would be their fault (?))

Woah, I've never kept them myself, but I've always heard that they are fairly easy. Maybe your water isn't right for them and they're harder than we thought?

Ya, I have successfully kept rummynose tetras for a long time. There must be something wrong with the water.

well. whats the colour like on the survivor? if hes okay the water might be fine/ the fish may be weak or the acclimatization too rough

It's possibly the acclimatization process that's killing them. I'm not really phased if I have them or not... I just wanted to get some for my lonely Rummy Nose... altho he believes he's a Neon at the moment.

They all the normal colour with the red nose. Even the dead ones had red noses. When I released them last night they lost their nose for about an hour. It might be my angels aggression that has got them? I didn't actually check them for any injury or damage.

Rummies are great indicators for water quality. Having said that, I bought 10 from my LFS a couple of weeks ago, within 2 days they had all died. So you do get good bad batches as well

    I know that's why I want them.
I know of some people who only do water changes every 3 to 4 weeks, are heavily stocked with fish, add no chemicals, and run basic filtration. In their defense, they are heavily planted tanks.
I'd like to reach that stage and was planning on using the rummy-noses as a "quick check" to see what my water quality is like.

they dont like to be bagged, they will often die even before you reach your home... the person doing the catching should be very patient, they are very fast so that usually results in them being chased all over te tank to catch 1 witch stresses them out

Ah... now I see what went wrong.
They were bagged very quickly and professionally actually. I wanted five, the pet store owner netted 5 with one swoop of the net (luck of the draw I suppose). I put the bag into my tank to acclimatize the temp, and then I fell asleep on the couch for an hour and a half.

Hmmm... now I see where the problem lies!

hopefully thats the prob. good luck if you are going for more.

I havent tried keeping any because they're usually quite expensive, 20rand plus for one?

As I said, I only wanted them to keep an eye on my water quailty. The test kits are sometimes such a pain to pull out all the time to test. But I suppose I shouldn't be so lazy. Water change only took me 30mins today. So it ain't too bad.

I only wanted some more for my current lonely one. But he didn't seem to even notice them when I put them in. He just kept on hanging out with the neons. Stupid fish!

    It's easy peasy..

I wold almost say it's almost impossible to kill the little buggers unless there is something wrong.
In defense though, the silver tips of late have been naf.

    Check those Parameters

R25.00 per fish!!! (Yes, I know it was a rip off!) But in the LPS defense, they gave me free food and 75% off the Rams due to my constant support there.

25 bucks a fish is the norm for Rummy's. You pay more than that for good quality Cardinals.

Zoom, I don't think you did anything wrong. I think its more a case of infected fish from the wholesaler/importer
