    Hi
    I have a 90cm tank with 7 rummy noses, some x-ray tetras and some black widows and a bristle nose catfish. About two weeks ago one of my rummy nose tetras`s nose started to turn the same colour as its body. The other tetras still have their nice red noses but this one colour is almost gone now. Why? I don`t think it stress, because it ate happily just like the others and does not seek a hiding place. Its behavior is normal to me. Is anything wrong? Should I worry?

    Check your water parameters. Rummys do this when Ammonia is high.

    @Rooivlerkie

    I experienced some loss of colour in my fish a while ago when I changed from filter water to tap water. It didn't affect all my fish but some lost almost all colour. I assumed the change in the ph of the filter water vs the tap water had an affect on the coloration. Since I've changed back some of the fish has regained a bit of their colour and are doing well.

    Don't know if this may be the case with your rummy nose, my experience are still very limited, but I hope you find out what's affecting him soon.

    What's odd is that it's just one. If it was water quality you'd expect it to be all of them. I got some rummys recently, and one of them had very little colour when I got them. It's gradually coloured up, but is still completely white around the mouth, almost as if it was injured there. It is also a little darker in body colour than the others, as well as being larger and deeper-bodied.

    Yes, the funny thing is its only that one. And its tail is not discoloured. It is only the nose. Like I said the behavior has not changed. only the colour. I tried for pictures but they are TOO FAST!

    Rummy noses generally lose their red noses when water parameters are off, test your water

    Keep an eye on the one that's lost its colour, I've been doing some reading and people seem to say that they lose the red noses when stressed in any way, not only due to bad water quality. So it could possibly be sick or something. The one of mine that used to have no colour has turned out to be female and they're spawning (not that I expect anything to hatch in my hard water). Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

    I first tought the fish was stressed but it shows no sign of stressing, its eating well and swimming fast. The nose has been for that for about two weeks. The water is acid.
