I found this pump in my deceased stepdads garage.

Specs on the pump: 12 Volts, 2 Amp fuse, Ignition protected. I've checked that the fuse is ok.
I wondered if I could use it as a backup pump for power failures, but don't know what kind of battery I could use, or how to attach the posts to a battery?

    Any help appreciated.

Now that is a nice find. Is the pump working?? Put the red to + en the black to - on a car battery and see what happens.
Personally I'll cut those ring connectors off and put alligator clips on there. A car battery would last a while for a pump like this.

Hey, thanks for that, ACE! I tried to find more info, but didn't get too far! I went off to consult my "technical advisor" who says bring it down to the workshop tomorrow, then we'll test & adapt. I'll report back!

YES! it works perfectly! And its ideal, obviously designed for a live-bait bucket/well, the water spurts down and slightly out of the blue (adaptable) head. I shall buy some alligator clips, and we ran it off my bakkie battery, so no more worries for me on power out days!

Hi Tom! I don't know, but I can borrow my friends 12v extra bike battery too if necessary, and he has a battery charger too, so if I know of a long black-out in advance, that will be first option. For shorter periods its great knowing I can just dump all my filters into a bucket and stroll out to the car! But I'll ask anyway...
