    Dude he said it is illegal to have or to sell or to trade it.
    but most of us have illegal plants in the tank.
    but this guy is asking a different question he does not want to know if it is legal or not he wants to now if the fungi is dangerous to his fish and to the plant
    SO how about we answer the question and then tell him if it is legal or not?
    I know nothing about plants so I can't help but I am sure someone here can

    easy answer, really, cut the bad part off, and stick it back in the soil, it grows like crazy, seriously i also (dont) have that plant...

    Please note, if you decide to throw it out, please dry it out and bin it, dont go chucking it in your local spruit/vlei...

    Besides being unpractical dont you think it would serve a much greater purpose to actually educate people rather than just ignore the problem, these forums give us the platform to make a difference;

    This thread is a good example, before Henk mentioned it most ppl probably didn't know this plant is invasive, but now they have been warned and told how 2 safely dispose of it in a responsible manner(dont you think thats worth more than following the rules?)

    I agree with eskimo...

    First answer the question he has the inform him that the plant is illegal and if he considers getting rid of it, how he should go about it.
    Most of us don't even have the black listings and even if we do we have not studied it so well, I never remember which is on or off the list

    (cyber law is my thing)

    okay, got the act, but it was promulgated in 2004? do you know which section or addendum lists the new species etc? its a pdf, i'm sure as hell not browsing 43 pages to find out, (when i';m on campus i'll get it in rtf, then i can use ctrl+f to find...)

    okay, found out chapter 5, part 1 section 65 onwards deals with alien species, refering to a list in the Gov Gazette that the minister must publish and maintain in re fauna and flora that may not be handled as per the definitions of restricted activities etc etc etc... permits, licences etc etc etc...

    Okay, point me in the direction of the gazette please?

    Thanks every one but what must i do? dispose of them or keep them? But their is anothere problem.... IP got the plant from my grandad and with it fish. These fish are (like most of my fish) unknown,he got them from a chinese guy in Pietersburg about 10 years ago and this breeder bred these fish with the plants for many years.So they have evolved together i took the elodea out the once and no fry,them with it in FRY!!!!But this in a small pond in my property,and i no a lot about environmental impact(we live near the butterfly park an endangered copper winged butterfly) and wont do an idiotic thing like dumping them in a river but WHAT MUST I DO!!!!!!!!!!
