    Hi ladies and gents

So, I've been looking for rocks to put in my 4 foot aquarium. I was looking for inert rock that wouldn't alter the water parameters in my aquarium.

Then I remembered I know someone who works at a quarry. He says he can get my some dolerite as it is non reactive (inert). Apparently it is similar to granite.

Has anyone had experience using dolerite in their aquariums?

    Thanks
    Luke

Can always do the vinegar test. if it fizzes, it’s not inert.
If it doesn’t, it is fine

I have these rocks in my tang setup and no issues at all.

    I think it's crusher stone.

Agree with @Reedfish and do the vinegar test, just to be safe

I've done the vinegar test before, but I watched a YouTube video where they said vinegar isn't acidic enough to be accurate. Apparently you need Muriatic Acid or another acid to be 100% accurate.

That rock looks very similar to this one in Lucky13 ... and it is an algae magnet, might not show any reaction to acid test but over time, some rocks just don't work out the way you thought they would. Good thing I am OK with some algae ;-)

Looks awesome. I don't mind a bit of algae either as my SAE and Ancistrus will enjoy it. Just not filamentous :)

They are 100% fine to use and dont cause any problems.
Have used the exact same rock many years back in this scape.
They are normal grey granite rocks and crusher rocks as mentioned above
