    Hi Guys

So as per my previous post , I found some rocks in the garden , tested them with acid and they seem safe for my tank .

Now the second part , Iv stripped down and cleaned the tank , removed everything but the background .
and I need to put this tank together again .
I will be replacing the black gravel for pool filter sand , removing most of the driftwood and replacing them with these rocks that I found .

Thing is two are rather large , One weighing 14 Kg alone , and the other close to 18 Kg and the other 4 of around 5 to 7 kgs

I had purchased some eggcrate before the lockdown and planned on using this , laying it on the glass and placing the rocks on top of this .

Will my tank be fine ? I dont know what the thickness of the glass is all round as there are these kind of panels around it making it a little difficulty to guage thickeness or really what glass Jewel uses on their tanks ( I think it might be float glass? ) BUT i have measured the back glass and its 10mm , its a Jewel Vision 450 tank.

Will the weight of these rocks be ok for the bottom glass? I wont be piling them on top of each other , more like scattering them around .

    Thanks guys

Along with the egg crate your going to be fine! I've put heavier into my standard 3 foot and 4 foot.

Agreed. As long as the rocks don’t lean against the side panels it won’t be an issue at all. My Jewel Rio 180 (which is much smaller than yours) is designed to carry up to 400 or 500kg, can’t remember which but one will be hard pressed to exceed the max weight.

Just make sure your stand is level, the tank is flat on a solid base and nothing between tank and base (that is if it hasn't got a polistireen base).

Thanks so much people! I really appreciate the advice , The Base of the tank does not have a polistireen base , its got some sort of factory bracket around the edges and what looks like a plastic brace piece underneath that . There is a gap between the Stand and the tank , The tank seems to sit on this plastic piece .I'm not sure if im describing this properly ,I have attached a picture for reference. The picture is not of the Vision 450 , but kind of the same way that it sits on its base cabinet. ( I have the standard Jewel cabinet ) See at the bottom theirs that bar going across the center and there is like a plastic surround as well .

If you’re using the Jewel vision with it’s original stand and it is level, you should be able to google the max weight. Those tanks are excellent- german engineering. Plus an egg crate and no stones leaning against the sides... you could probably stack the whole tank full of rocks and still have no issue.

Yup using the Vision 450 with its original stand , Yesterday , I tried to scape the tank , added a few rocks , I chickened out on the heavy rock at 18Kgs LoL to scared i might drop it while lowering it in the tank , or it might be 2 heavy for the tank , I stuck to the two sub 12 kg rocks and a few of the smaller ones . Tank feels strange and looks strange now with the pool filter sand , I have been using the black gravel for so many years , The filter sand does seem to make the tank look brighter . Im not using the big piece of driftwood as well , trying to keep the tank as open as possible .

LoL im so afraid , im a total amateur at Aquascaping and this forum is fulled with professionals haha , and this is my first time using rocks , Im trying to do a less is more to ease maintenance in the tank , So the less I have the easier it is for the filters to wash of the sand and suck up the dirt or left over food . Will post up some pictures as soon as im complete . I have noticed the tank a lot brighter with the pool sand though , even the background seems to be brighter .

Folks around here are very encouraging and not condencending, no need to hold back. My first attempt was pretty dodge in hindsight but I got encouragement and learned so much from forum members, and continue to do so. No one here is a professional. We just want more people to try out plants and go on the journey

@A new day Thanks so much for the encouragement :) I really really appreciate it . It gives me some hope . I know im guaranteed to make mistakes on this new change , The tank had been running for many years with its old setup of black gravel , driftwood and plants . Occasionally , like once in two years, I would drain the tank , remove the wood , pressure wash the wood , clean off the walls , fill it up and restart the filters . So this is a compleatly new change for me.

So I added the rocks , then sand , and used a few small pieces of driftwood here and there, Cleaned out the internal filter , filled up the tank and started up the internal Filter . Its been running like this for about 4 maybe more hours now and the water still seems very misty or cloudy , I have never experienced this before , Generally when Redoing this tank with my normal black sand which I have been using since forever , the tank is generally clear at around the 20 minute mark .

I suspect its the new pool filter sand that's causing the cloudiness , Will this eventually settle or is there something I should do ?
I will attach a temporary Tetratec EX1200 Canister filter to it tomorrow to increase the filtration of the tank , Will this help to speed up the removal of the cloudiness ? I say temporary because the primary canister filter , also a Tetratec EX1200 that I use on this tank , in conjunction with the Jewel internal filter . Is now being used to filter a smaller temporary tank , that's housing the few smaller fish and plants that were in this big tank . So once this tank has settled , I will transfer that canister filter back to the big tank with the fish and plants .

Im not used to seeing the tank so cloudy . Should I test anything? I used a torch from my phone against the glass and it seems to be some kind of mist cloudiness . I did wash the sand out thoroughly but maybe not enough?

It ia probably the new pfs, even when rinsed very well it makes the water a bit cloudy initially. Running some filter floss for a day or two will sort it out, change it out a couple of times.

    @Zippy320 ,

That is from the PFS and will eventually clear with the floss, but can be a bit of a pain

Unfortunately with PFS you wash and wash and wash until you think its clean and then.. do it all over again
I usually give the first big wash and then leave it in a bucket filled with salty water for a day or two
Then give it a good couple of rinses again before putting in the tank
