    Hello

I'm looking for a 2l Ice Cream tub of Fine River Sand.
I've tried stodels and Cape Garden Centre, but no luck.

Does anyone know where to get?

    Hi Gilbert.
I have what I think is fine sea sand. It's almost like sugar. I think I have about a 1Kg margarine container full.
Let me know if you want it.
Just about any nursery-type place should have river sand. Not sure about how fine though.

    Thanks Darryn

I may very well take you up on it.

If its sea sand, will it not change the PH, due to the crushed shells in it?
Do you use it for substrate?

I am not sure if it will affect the PH. Still a noob, so not too sure about those type of things yet.
I have not used it myself. I use pool filter sand and river sand.

Don't use sea sand if you can at all help it - you are never ever sure of the salt content in it.

You can get a small bag at the nursery for around R10 or so (Super Plants has the darker sand and Stodels the lighter sand).

I'd offer to hand some over to you but I think I may have to go and buy some myself for the 1m cube (no Henk it is STILL not filled with water) :D:D

Got mine from Silvermine dam/stream. There you get from fine to gravel just sift out what you dont like. By that small quantity the better part of 10 min and you can have a look at the most southerly Bush fish and a stunning spring flower display:bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile:

I was at Supa Plants in Parklands yesterday to buy some river sand. From previous experience I know that the sand from Supa Plants is more of a red/brown colour.
I searched through all their bags to find the one that was the most red. The staff there must have thought that I was mad, moving all their bags around.
I ended up buying a 30L bag for R40. (They still have LOTS).
After washing NUMEROUS times, the sand ended up a nice rich brownish/red colour. Well worth the effort. Looks much nicer than pool filter sand.
I used pool filter sand in my first 3ft, and am seriously considering breaking that tank down and putting in some river sand.
    My 2c.

    Hi man
Now thats an idea. Hate that sterile white selica sand. What grain size do you have and are the grains rounded or rather with sharp edges:wondering: where did you get it from

Dunno the grain size, mixed nuts. 2mm to 5mm. Some rounded and some edgy. Bought it from a guy who grows and sells bonsai, at the national bonsai show that was on from thurs till today
