    Hi Folks!

I was looking at my profile, and noticed the final box which says latest Reputation earned. I also noticed Rep power next to my name on each post I have Posted. These numbers do not match!

Could someone please explain to me what they are and how they work?

I'm guessing that placing this post will probably get me a reduction in Reputation earned, since a thread I posted when I first joined about wood seemed to give me negative feedback?? But since I don't understand how it works I may be wrong??

    Any help please??

    Cheers
    Big G!

    Hi big G
Don't worry i had/have the same problem. First post seemed to have given me negative Reputation and people who posted 20 posts have far higher reputation.
If it helps you'r not alone:bigsmile::bigsmile:

I think more than anything, I just want to know what it is, and how it works?? There doesn't seem to be any boxes to click on to leave someone a rating? I'm not really bothered about the ratings myself, but just wanted to know the above!!

Apparently at the moment I have more Rep Power than the Prof (12 as aposed to 9), but masses less for Reputation Earned (10 as apposed to 198)!

Clearly this is strange, as surely the Prof would have both the highest Reputation Earned (which he does) and the Highest Rep Power (which he doesn't??)??

So it just made me wonder!

Any Mods or Rory care to comment??

    Cheers
    Big G!

Each user has a different reputation power, which is based on the following: their post count, their time since they have been registered and the amount of rep points they have. So, what this means is if a member signed up yesterday, they will have a rep power of 0, which means when they give someone a positive reputation it will not count.

As an example....(these are just example figures)...Your rep power increases in the following ways, every 150 days after your registration date, your rep power will increase by 1
For every 500 posts you make your rep power increases by 1
For every 10 points of reputation you have, your rep power increases by 1.

If you want to give someone positive or negative rep for a post then you click on the pic of the scales next to the post number at the top right of each individual post.

I think I partly understand that concept, but it doesn't always correlate, as with the example between me and the Prof above??

So in what instances would you leave Reputation remarks?? I've had three comments placed on my profile, only one of which had any 'comments' attached and that just said 'Mmmmmmm'! That one had a red card next to it, another had a blue card next to it, and the next a green card. What do these mean?

Also, if people can leave these comments, then there is no chance to respond to it, as there is no record of who left the comments?? Whats to stop abuse of this??

    Just some more thoughts!!

Pretty much what Zebra Pleco said.
Rep power = what you can dish out
Rep earner = what you have
Red is negative, green positive. Blue? There's gray which is when someone with 0 power gives you some rep.

What's to stop abuse, not much really. Basically have to pm me if you feel it is not warranted (which most people will for anything negative so please try keep it to exceptional cases). Also you can't just give positive or negative rep to the same person over and over again, there's limits etc.

But what use is a comment like 'Hmmmm'??

And the others are no comments at all! Although they were in the positive!

Rory, are you able to tell what exactly the Hmmmm Negative was for?? I mean to me it seems stupid that some one has given me negative feedback for asking a question that I thought was a valid question! At the time of the post I was a newbie, and could not find the answer on search!

If someone saw it fit to give me negative feedback, at least have the sense to leave a reason?? How can people learn or change if they are not told what was warranting a negative??

It just seems a bit stupid to me! I'm really not bothered if some one left me negative feedback, but more the fact they didn't say why?? But anyhow, this was not meant to be a soapbox! Just don't understand the system and People!!

Maybe we could add some 'guidelines' for leaving feedback so people have some clue of what to actually do with it? A kind of feedback etiquette??

    Just a few thoughts

    Cheers
    Big G!
