Actually larvae of the Chironomid midges, but thats not important. All they'll do is be a nice little treat when your fish finds them!

    Hi Marius,

They got into your pond because these are the larvae of a type of mosquito, it does not sting you, but it flies and lays its eggs in the pond and then these worms develop. They eat algae, can be eaten by the fishes and are harmless, your fish will love eating them.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

They do multiply, just set some water out in buckets and generally you will see little stripes in the water (or little huts type of things) a bit elongated.
anyway they fishes (as everyone said) will love them. actully I collected some from my Plant tub today to feed my siemes, but only gave him like 3 worms
and REST of it wen to the guppies (WTF pigs!) my BGK didnt even see it yet and all gone!

Btw, easy way to collect them if you want to try my method -
You will need a syringe, in ur pond if there is no other fish - stir the water and make a whirlpool (try focus the eye of the whirlpool into the center)
let the whirlpool settle and quickly use ur syringe and suck up the center (you will bring thier house material with it) they seems to be stunned
after the swirl. collect them and put them in a bucket and then once your done - fill the tub/bucket with clean water, this will dilute the water
then let the worms settle, and sorta pour the water out slowly preventing them to slip out aswell.
Rinse and repeat for 3-4 times, and ur water should be cleanish (except for some of the houses that are still intact) but never the less.
you can now use ur fingers to sort them if u want or you could just dump them for the fishes... and and watch how fast they get munched up.
MUCH better then the frosen ones.
I only advise this if you know your water is safe, I would really not advise it if there are any rust in the pond or picked up from an unknow location.

Anyways thats how I collect these bugger, give it a try and see if that works for you.
I am trying to find all sorta ways to gather, rise , culture live food for my fish

    my 10c worth

I used to harvest hundreds of these worms monthly from my pond filter. They preferred to colonize the matrix stones only. That made it very easy to harvest them.

Rust in metals gives off chemicals (rust is a form of breaking down metal) the biggest concern in the industry when is -
Inviromental impact assestments on companie will always be sure to test rust then pay for the damages (lotsa money)
to the water steam and killing off fish.
It is hard to explain all the chemicals but yes we pay loads to the goverment for stuff like this on a yearly bases.
so if the worms are in these waters, they sure will pick up some of these chemicals.
