I've grown it and it really grows uber quickly if it is in its happy conditions. It's best practice to keep approx 5 or 6 leaves on the plant for it to be optimal although it'll throw out more leaves. Really, it looks stunning with all its leaves in a big tank, but beware, this plant blocks quite a bit of light.
Roots grow very lengthy......goes almost all over the tank. When I uprooted mine last year, I lifted more than half of the substrate

I currently have one but it's showing signs of death (in my recent redone 1.2m + sump tank....in between the rocks). If it dies, I don't actually want to get it again (although it's beautiful)....I don't like plants that blocks tons of light. It's also one of the reasons why I hate duckweed too (even though it's very good in assisting keeping your water healthy

    Hi Henk,

These plants are lovely and easy to care for.
Their leaves do tend to vigorously reach for the surface but I use that tendency to "shade" some of the species in my aquarium which requires less light.
Personally I have only used and seen the Nymphaea micrantha but would love to add some Nymphaea lotus "Red" to my collection.

    Regards,
    Fanie Jordaan

Henk... how easy is it to source /grow that plant... I think the red plants give the tank such a new character.
