    Good morning one and all!!

I a newb when it comes to all things aquarium related...

Had a steep learning curve till now but getting there...

Local pet shop will give you the advice you need ao they can make a quick buck.

    Ok that behind me....

This is my very first...wait my very second...tropical tank. The first was a 14 litre one but soon realised it was not big enough for the Danios...3 Glofish danios. Now their home is a 100 litre tank.

Also had a quick learn about cycling...but the small tank was completely cycled before moving Inky, Pinky and Ponky to their new home...with new filter, gravel and new ornaments...

My question now is....how long will the tank be cycling before I can get 3 more danios? I did take some floss from the old filter and added it to the 2 new filters and the ornaments from the old tank.[IMG]

Hi, and welcome to the forum

If you moved the filter media across it shouldn't take long.
Don't over feed for the first week or two so that the new filter can catch up.

    Hi, and welcome to TASA.
You can help along the cycling process by adding something like Seachem Stability to the tank.
It seeds the tank with the beneficial bacteria your tank will need to convert ammonia to nitrite, an then convert the nitrite to nitrate.

    Thanks Pezulu!!

    Just dit a water test....no ammonia, about 10mg/l nitrite(NO3), and zero nitrate(NO2).

So it seems something is happening!!

Seems the ammonia is being converted to nitrite, so that is a good thing.
You want 0% ammonia and 0% nitrite.
Nitrite will be converted to nitrate when the cycle is complete.
Nitrate you get rid of by doing water changes.

With a water change you will be introducing chlorine, chloramine and other buffering agents to the tank.
A good dechlorinator is a must.
Seachem Prime, Sera Aquasafe and others all do the trick.

Hi and welcome to the forum

I agree with the advice given so far, also as @Pezulu mentioned, some Seachem Stability helps a lot to seed your filter, speed up the cycle and protect your fish in tank.

    - ahh this is ok, but once you start adding guppies you might want to reconsider naming them esp if you get the male female ratio correct ;-)

Once you have mastered this tank, be sure to make the 5ft in the lounge a planted tank.

    Happy MTS

Morning all...it seems I got it wrong, NO3 is nitrAtes and NO2 is nitrites, or that is in accordance to what the following artical states:
    https://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

So does that mean that my tank is cycled if I only get a 10mg/L NO3?

If you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and are getting nitrate out then it is cycled :)

Yup, agree with the others. Filter not fully cycled.
You want Ammonia and Nitrite to be 0, and a reading for Nitrate.

    Try the Seachem product.
Or even see if a fish shop, or a friend will give you a small piece of their media to put in the filter.
If not, you just have to be patient, it will happen in due course.

Don't be tempted at add more fish until this is sorted.
I have kids myself and I know they like getting more fish, but it's not the way to go at this stage.
