Rare pleco's??

    Yup, those are unusual Plecs.

    The Scarlet Dragon, a L025 is certainly hard to get hold of. And when they are available, not cheap. I paid £90 (R350) for my 5cm one
    An adult will cost a fortune!

    Recently there was l260 available in SA,and they were well over R1000 each!other nice ones that comes around every now aand then is l333,l340,l201,which l333 is much more expensive than l340 and l201

    yup Adults would be outrageously pricey!
    I have had L025 and their related Pseudacanthicus spp a few times over the years. Although not larger than 12-15cm

    So they are very scarce fish, and exceedingly rare in SA hobby.
    Blue eye pleco you asked me about, is even MORE expensive!!
    It is so much harder to locate,capture and maintain, all the way through to the hobbyist.

    Mistaken foreign exchange rate used ..WISH £ was worth ZAR3.89
    £90 is +-R1700 .
    Actual fish price, though is obviously more, since SA also has very little buying power.

    I have ordered some items, from UK, and I am stumped by the Pound, and have had to suspend my british imports since late 2013

    Brazil and SA do not have bilateral trade in aquarium fish for 4years :(
    ANY Brazilian species have to thus be brought into SA via intermediary countries.
    Each step, has mounting costs, risks, losses and profit before reaching us.


    L46, L66, L173b, L236, L260, are other rarities to add to @jabula 7749 :blink1:

    You are correct!
    I must have put the wrong numbers into the calculator
    More R1,600.
    I believe there are restrictions on the export of L025's, hence the price tag.

    Blue Eyed Panaques go for thousands of £.
    Thy are found in bandit country in Colombia and no one is prepared to go and catch them.

    Oh since i first saw photos of the blue eyed pleco i wished to own one... I geuss i never get one with my little disability pension... Ugh... But i can dream alittle...lol

    Very pretty fish! The pet shops in East London do get other nice plecos in, so just keep an eye out.

    To add. Saw zebra pleco's at a lps this weekend. Never knew they were so rare... R3000+ each wheew sounds a little excessive but not a fundi with plecos so can't judge.
