    Why not? Are colorvariants of the same species. But two males will fight being territorial fish.

    I have mixed before and have had no problems. Obviosly the males each had their spots in the tank but other than that they were fine.

    The only problem I suspect that may arise is that they will "crossbreed" with your other colour strains. If that's not a problem to you personally then there should be no problem. :bigsmile:

    Yep if there is enough space it won't be a problem!!! Don't know what color you'll get if you'd get eggs of a mixed couple (blue x yellow = green hahaha)

    Quick look on the net suggests that you will get GBR fry and if you're lucky a few strong gene gold ones, sadly no 50/50

    Hi guys,

    Ive done this before. In the first generation the fry look like this.

    ForumRunner_20130816_104940.jpg

    In second generation you then get some Blue, golden and again some which resemble as above, with a little more red in the belly region, presumeably from the red you find on quality Red head golden Rams.
    The scales tend to have an almost pearl look to them on these.
    I went down this road to see what can be made of it, but in honesty I dont find a Golden/Blue Ram cross worth persuing.

    A far better cross is Golden x Electric blue, where second generation fry will look like this

    Powder blue.jpg

    Now these are much prettier. I managed to breed these to 3rd generation before I stupidly introduced new Electric blue Rams to the population to inject new blood. This resulted in some parasitic infectionI couldnt get on top off and subsequently I lost all my breeding stock - 18mths of work! So it goes if you do silly things I guess....
    Im trying to arrange for 3 pairs of F2 Blue Rams to come with a shipment of Discus Im awaiting. Not banking on it but it would be nice to get some proper brood stock from Europe, as categorically ALL LPS Rams come with a short life span, poor brood care and suspect shape and colouring.

    Anyway, for those who want to try it, give it a bash. Its really nice to see and experiment with genetics in a fish that I believe still offer much in its genetic ability.

    Rgds

    @rednox

    Yip, that's an electric blue and a very nice specimen at that.

    Ps: Love the blue of the fish against the green of the plants. Looks stunning!
