    Hallo

    Just a curious question.........

I know they say that if you get fry not all will make it to adulthood. Why does this happen? Is it the weak ones that die or are they sick or ??:push:

Mostly eaten by other larger guppies.

Mine are quite robust, and to date I havent lost any. (Those that are born in hatchery)

I feed them profs powder (No1)
And they all live quite happily.

Until they fed to the other fish that is :)

In my previous tank 90% of the Guppy grew up to be adults.
Tank mates included a Pleco, 6 Serpae Tetras and 4 Guppy adults.
The Serpae Tetras were the culprits in this case, caught them once or twice hunting down a guppy baby.

The majority of our guppy fry survive as we put in HUGE amounts of guppy grass so if about 2% get eaten then that's alot.

My fry is all alone in a tank. But I still see some dead ones. What can this be? Cant see anything wrong with them. I do the normal water changes every week. but still have some dieing.

Do the guppy fry come from stock which are interbreeding?
Just in case, is the tank properly cycled and what are you feeding them?

I loose about 30-40% as well. Unless you are planning on selling them and making money out if it... I really wouldn't stress about it. Can you imagine if all 15+ survived, and 4 months down the line these 15 all had babies too???

well ive been breeding platys this year, the female usualy gave birht during the afternoon when the sun was on the tank, I then scooped the babies up from between the plants before my angels could get to the most of them, and placed them in a 15L tank with plant and heater and HOB filter, they all survived no casualty's and i fed them crushed flaked food.

I love my guppies .. but need to start culling them at some stage .. of the 13 tanks currently on - 9 have guppies in them - so keeping count of every fry has become a non-event.

I'll move a lot out to the out-side pond in a few week once the sun has moved a bit. Then the fit will multiply and the weak will become comet food. In winter I will rescue a few nets then start it all over again. Just can not get my self to give them to a LFS - rather get another tank ;-)

Depends on the LFS, If they want them separated then the cost is higher

No there parents are all differant batches I bought. First babys I got from them.

They get livebearers fry food and sometimes korrels (with VitaA) and some egg yolk.

The tank has been running for 3 months now.

I have left my guppy fry in with the adults, I know it is cruel but I leave them to fend for them selves - survival of the fastest and fittest..... Survivor the real game.....
