Is there a way to raise betta eggs fatherless and still have success? I have had a betta spawn today. The male embrace the female and then there can lots of eggs out. But he did not put them in the nest and the female went down and ate them! I suck them out. I have 18 eggs. Now I put them in a glass container and put a bubbler in. What else can I do? Should I leave the bubbler in all the time? Or take it out for a period of time?
    Thanks

    Hiya @Rooivlerkie

I have had a similar problem before, and raised them without the father, had them float in the breeding tank in a seperate dish (for the constant temperature), with just enough water to cover the eggs, biggest problem your going to have is fungus, but if you have added anti fungal to the tank already as part of your spawniong process, it should be fine.

Other than fungus, keeping a steady temperature is the other hard part, but do both of those, and enssure the eggs stay wet, and hopefully all will be well. There are a few articles out there if you do a seach for betta eggs without father or something along those lines, just be prepared to do a bit of digging try http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/fatherless.htm google "hatching betta eggs without a male betta", hope you come right and good luck.

Switch your bubbler off until the fry are free swimming. Once the fry are feeding, you can use a foam filter. Just remember, betta fry are small, and 18 will probably find enough food in the tank.

Of the 18 eggs all but 1 got fungus. I suspect a lot was unfertilized. I doubt this one will survive but maybe...

I had experience also a egg eating male a while ago. I breed him with a female and he ate all the eggs. Then later a breed him again and care for them perfectly. There are about 100 of them.
This was the first spawn for this male and female so I will try to spawn them again and hope to have better luck.

The fry survive till now. But he is not freeswimming yet. With all my other spawns the fish is freeswimming at this stage. I don`t know why this one is taking so long?

Hi @Rooivlerkie, in my experience, the fry that have been raised without the father do tend to develope more slowly than usual, but they tend to turn out healthy just the same, I am holding thumbs that this is the case with your little guy. Unfortunatly, it could be also be something genetic perhaps, but at this stage it is just pure speculation, so don't let it bother you overly much, and just hang in there and give her/him a little bit of time.

    Good luck.

    Hi
I hope he will make it. yesterday I was not sure he was alive but then I look closely and saw him moving. I hope he/ she survive. How much slower do they develop more or less?

I am mad at that male. He ate two batches of eggs. I want to breed him again and then remove the eggs as soon as the female laid him.
