Hey guys - My Rainbow shark is all alone in a tank at the moment and I feel so sorry for him. He bullies all the other fish including my 2 plecostumus. The shark is about 5cm long and the plecostumus are 6cm and 7cm long. What can I put in a tank with this little bully?

Put fish in that can take the punch and remember the rainbow shark can get very big, I would put in another shark or maybe a bala shark

You got loads of caves, rocks and plants - these guys tone it down if they have an interesting environment to explore. Also do not seem to like being in anything smaller than a 4ft - again want the swimming space.

Would not put in a angel, if he bullies the plecos bigger than him he will kill the angels.

Currently I have 2 plecos in and 2 eels of about 4cm. Thought of putting in 2 or 3 silver dollars. But will try more plants and a cave or 2 first. Thanks guys

If you add silver dollars, then say good bye to any plants!

What size tank is it in? Bala sharks and silver dollars grow very large and need an absolute minimum 1.5m tank! Even angels shouldn't really be in a tank much smaller than 1.2m unless it is especially deep? Also, Balas, SD's and Angels should be kept in a group of 6 minimum (unless its a breeding pair of angels)!

I wouldn't add another shark, as this will just promote fighting!

Your best bet is to add more caves and wood to provide shelters and visual barriers like plants!

    Regards
    G!

Don't add another shark. They become very territorial when they get bigger. This would only make them fight.

hi there, i would not advise you get another rainbow shark in the tank, rainbow sharks should not be kept with other rainbow sharks as they are territorial towards other rainbow sharks, red tail sharks and also bala sharks (basically other torpedo shaped fish). i would advise a school of some kind of tetra, maybe scissor tail or rummynose or neons.. my rainbow shark gets on really well with 2 clown loaches as well and i've heard good things on the net about that particular combination as well.

the size of the tank and the decorations would also affect his bahaviour, if the tank is too small he would regard the entire tank as his territory, and also if there are enough decorations (not all stuck at the back of the tank, but spread around so that fish can swim around them and its more like there natural habitat) then the fish have places to hide and feel more comfotable.

this is a beautiful fish and very very tough with lots of character, when you busy with tank maintenance dont be surprised to find that he comes and nuzzles your fingers while you busy.

i hope that helps you somewhat boet :)

    cheers
