    Hey Guys

Figured since most of you sit here refreshing every day I'd let you know AfriHost has dropped it's prices to R29/GB for ADSL accounts. Just signed up now, 5GB/month account for only R145! (I was using prepaid at R70/GB but figured that's so much cheaper if I waste a little it doesn't really matter)

So hope that this is the start of the industry catching a wakeup.

Vodacom, iBurst and other - non-traditional ADSL service providers .... I'd love to pay R29 per GB top-up.

Yeah not that long ago it was about R2000/gb for gprs/3g...

The only "catch" as such with the Afrihost offer is that topups on that account might not always be R29/gb so I just went for the 5gb account cos it basically costs the same as what I'm paying for 2gb now.

There is another company that does it for less, the catch is only 128Kb during office hours, 4 Mb after hours, but its dirt cheap, will look around for it again.

Wow that is an awesome price! I thought I was getting a bargain at R249 for 6gb a month but I see that for slightly more I can get 10gb - my son will be in seventh heaven! :D

How is their service Rory because the company I am currently with provides out of this world service!

Don't know what the performance of the actual ADSL is but people on MyBB say its as good as any other. So far their service seems fantastic. Their website works well for signup etc and they do pro-rata billing so if you signed up now for 5gb then you'll only get about 1gb but only be charged around R30, and then next month get the full amount which is cool. Only "snag" is they need a copy of your ID/drivers before they activate your account. I only signed up at about 18:30 last night and they activated mine sometime during the night so I haven't actually tried it yet.

I'm now posting from my new Afrihost ADSL account and it's running full speed on my 384Kbps connection :)

And the setup was super easy, they even have a knowledgebase on their site with all the instructions of how to set up your connection.

It's time to change your email provider...
Use one of the isp-agnostic ones like Gmail, you'll be much better off.

Yeah it sucks using an ISP email address. Apparently it is possible to downgrade on mweb to an "email only" type account for about R35/mo but they won't tell you about it and will probably deny it exists but people have done it. You may as well just downgrade to the lowest package and start using something like gmail for now and then when you're happy that everything been changed to your gmail address just cancel mweb.

Plus Gmail will fetch your old mail whilst your account is active, and mark it as your old account so that you can see what is still coming through

We got the Afrihost 10gb package but I was too late in cancelling my other 6gb per month package. So for the month of October we have 16gb available.......my son used the 6gb from the other company in 2.5 days! And he didn't download ANY movies or anything!!!!! WOW!
