I am planing a new tank with a sump. After the chamber where the water enters the sump and flows a to the next chamber. Must it flow over the glass like a waterfall or can it go under the glass?

If you are confused tell me and I will try to make sketches

    Kind regads Mark D

In the first chamber where the water flows in from the tank it needs to flow over the glass into the next chamber where you will have your sponge, filter floss and matrix then it must flow under the glass to the next chamber where the pump will pump it back into the main tank.

I think as long as you give it a single path through all the media it can flow whatever way you want it to. But go and have a look at the thread that koganm suggested, especially Dirk's picture on page 7.
