    hey guys,

Just saw something interesting during our pet shop crawl.... one of the sponsors that supplied Seachecm products is selling Purigen 100g for R199 a unit where as Panorama petshop is selling it for R127.10... makes one wonder

It pays to shop around. I have found big differences in prices of test kits too.

Yup, definitely one has to shop around. I have a feeling on prices around LFS in teh Western Cape, so I know where to go to for a particular item or livestock for the best value of money

I feel that a LFS who are not a sponsor of the forum should not be advertised by members. I think that quite fair.

I see what you mean now. No address or telephone number was given for them.....also, what about all the posts where the name of a LFS is given to get other goods??? I think if someone has found a bargain somewhere it can only benefit other members to know about it as this forum is supposed to be here to help those in the hobby and a sponsor should be there to assist the members wherever they are able to, in my opinion. I'm sure that most of the sponsors here did not become sponsors purely for financial reasons (well I can only hope that to be the case), but rather to support those in a hobby which they themselves are passionate about. I personally feel that sponsors should offer special prices or discounts to members of TASA, but that is obviously not part of any agreement signed between sponsors and TASA so it is obviously not a 'must do' (but it would be nice) :).

I hear your argument and aggree to a certain extent and no one is stopping anyone sending a friend a e-mail or calling them on the phone to tell them about a good deal or good service they have experienced at a certain non sponsor but why should a non sponsor enjoy the exposure on this site for free when our sponsors are paying for it ? I just think fair is fair.

Maybe the sponsors should keep it real and not expect members to blindly support them just because they sponsor the site.If I know of a shop that sells supperior product and provides good service, why not spread the word?I might be mistaking but I don't see any ads by the sponsors. How can I know if they, the sponsors, have a better deal on said products.

Perhaps this is a matter that the moderators/administrators could have a say on. Are there any site rules that cover this topic ?

Are you not asking us to advertise other non-sponsors here? This is definitely going to be a difference of opinions all round it seems. If prices are in line with retail shops then I don't think this thread would even be an issue.

PS: Northern Aquatics also sells Seachem products, but not sure on pricing I'm afraid....

No, non sponsors should have no advertising here as far as I am concerned.

If you regulate topics like this one, only a select group will have acces to new products, new ideas and more vallue for your money. How can we advance the hobby in SA if only a select few is moving forward.
Many fish keepers give up the hobby because off the lack off knowledge or just struggling to find the correct equiptment/additives/fertilisers/substrates.
I got hooked on fishkeeping/aquatic plants when I stumbled on a copy of Practical fishkeeping.NO blacklisted fish/plants in that magazine.Knowledge is freely shared on all topics, especialy on product prices. Why should we diffrent?

Look, how many dedicated shops are there in CPT? I mean, shops dedicated to all matters concerning fishkeeping. Not many I think.Witch of these shops sponsor this site? I don't know the sponsors or if they are even located in CPT or where. How can I support them if they don't advertise?

Thank god you are not an admin or mod. The rules are as follows. You can name a shop, you can say what you paid for it, but you MAY NOT post contact details....

So can you please climb out of the one sponsors ass.....
