Guys, after soaking the old purigen in bleach, what are the steps to follow after that? Do I just soak it in dechlorinated water or what is the procedure to follow? Anybody out there that can give me some help on this?

There are some pretty good instructions on the box/bottle/Seachem website. I have been trying to figure out for a long time now if the "soaking in a buffer solution" is really required and what purose it serves. Or do they just want you to buy another Seachem product? Nobody has been able to answer my question...

soak in bleach 1:1 mixture, then after 24 hours, rinse (i did this a few times then let it soak in clean water as well...)
then you need to put it in a dechlor.
Use seachem's stuff if you want to be sure the regen will be successfull (some other products contain chloramines, colourants etc that could foul the purigen.

I used Safe, emailed Seachem and they told me i can use one tsp per cup of water. so i mixed one tsp in half o coffemug of water, and sunk the bag in, then stirred it around a bit every few hours (8 in all)

then i rinsed it again, and smelled it for chloride - no smell, safe, put it back in this morning

if you smell anything, mix some more dechlor and soak.

(you can also use Prime, or Chlorgaurd)
These products contain Chloride and Chloramine neutralisers in one formula. (also controls ammo levels

the buffer is recommended in the good old 'cover your arse' syndrome. Chloride results in a high pH, so your purigen may or may not increase pH levels, thats why they say to soak in buffer, its usually unnecessary, and in some cases reported to even lower pH rather than vice versa after regen (probably too much dechlor solution and unrinsed...)

I found this info from a forum that had seachem as a sponsor, cant remember where now...

    at AK in atterbury 10g is 79rand i think. 50grams = 98rand...
i couldn't find someone with Prime in stock, but you can use that too, 2tsp per cup...

but safe is more concentrated (its the powdered form of Prime)

@laure, browse on aquaticplantcentra, the buffer info stuff is on there... (blue yellow colorscheme website far as i remember)

Nope, i didn not, but i already have a friggin high pH value, cant be raised to 8 if its already 8.2....

What you should do is, go through the process, then when done, pour water in a bowl, test the pH, float purigen in it, after a few hours test it again, if theres a marked increase, you could maybe go for a buffer, or maybe just soak it in something with a lower ph to neutralise it, then it can go back into the tank. Many people you'll notice on that forum i mentioned earlier, told seachem the buffer is expensive and they wanna know if its necessary, the test, float, test method was mentioned by seachem, but then he also said "we always recommend following the directions" to cover liability aspects, so test, and see if there truly is an increase worth worrying about, try sommer with a bowl of you tank's water, so you'll know what the effect on the TANK water will be

also note that i rinsed the proverbial crap out of my bags after regen, to try and insure there's nothing but regen'd purigen going back in
