Pump for DIY canister filter

    I'm planning to build a total DIY planted tank (glass tank and fish excluded) and I saw several designs for a canister filter, but in all of them they are vague about the pump. Does anybody have any experience with a DIY filter and what kind of pump did you use.

    Uhm what I do is just take a normal pump for like a fountain and connect it. Read the side of the box and it shows you the LPH at a certain height. Get the height to work out LPH you want to get the pump size you want
