Quite a nice easy growing tall species is Sunset Hygrophila... I constantly have to trim mine to stop it from covering the top of my tank lol

Awesome! Although I think the cory count is a bit low... You can never have to many corys in my opinion lol. I have some Julie corys and they are great.

Oh the platties might nip the betta male's fins, I've just had a bad experience with mine. They seem fine with the females though.

    Good luck with the tank!

    Hi Windfire,

Sounds like you have a nice weekend ahead of you.. setting up a new tank.. oh the jealousy!

I'd agree with Whisper... Platties might nip the male betta. I wold suggest increasing the female beta numbers to 4 as well. This gives the male WAY TOO MUCH distraction as their will be so many females. Otherwise he could tire out the females trying to chase and mate them.

I've heard people say Danio's fin nip too.... but I haven't seen evidence of this. They are also really stunning shoaling fish... so I would suggest increasing that. I'd much rather see a shoal of 15-20 danios that 15-20 neons... just my opinion!

well the tank is definately coming tomorrow my ma didnt have time to pick it up today, i already have a male betta, named vulcan, and 3 platties and they pretty much leave each other alone and he's a crown tail so i doubt there will be any problems in a bigger tank. danios are awesome fish and pretty in their own way i love the leopards and would like more of them but the original stock not the long finned variety as i find that they tend to have spinal deformaties.

this is just a conservative list im worried about overstocking and im not sure of the limit in the new tank. i would like some horse faced loaches if i can find them i think they cute especially the way they bury themselves in the gravel when they get a fright. id like to find some turqoise females as i think they gorgeous, would five bettas have enough space in my tank? i dont want any fighting.

kaizerG does that plant have red foliage? im still unsure if i want to introduce coloured foliage into my tank.

and last thing how long should i cycle this tank? i will add some old filter wool from my current tank to kickstart the bacteria so would two weeks be enough?

If you using old filter material, in theory it should be ok for a few fish in a couple of days... if you prepared to spend a few bob you could get some "cycle" which is always a great idea in my opinion. Seachem's Stability is a better product, but the "Cycle" is a cheaper option.

if i add the filter wool (its only going to be a small piece mind) as soon as iv got the tank running, at the latest sunday and then say on wednesday add 3 of my danios and the next three on friday, saturday that should work right? iv read that danios make great cycling fish because they are quiet hardy. my guppy fry are going to be ecstatic when i put them in the 40L tank lol i cant wait to see them under the light! i could also add some of my smaller plants this tank is going to take awhile to take shape as ill have to do a little bit each month but i should have my wood by monday week after next and ill start my stone constructions this weekend

I would also keep my eye on those Betta. Some males do not get along with the females, exept when breeding. Will like to know if yours will all get along in peace.

thanx zoom i cant wait to finish it its full now and cycling. i was at the petshop today and i saw some blue gouramis so id like to add a pair to my stocking list. speed il take a serious look at the angels thanx for the heads up, maybe if i make sure theres plenty of hiding places things will be ok. my betta is very chilled out so im not worried he'll fight with anyone else especially given the fact he'll be in a larger tank. pics are up on photobucket
