I tried floating and he did not like it much, seems he likes when it sinks.

My daughter has been doing sink\float experiments at school so the other day she was pointing into the tank naming all the things that sank. And says only the food floats. This way she will have an idea of making a ball sink even though it normally floats.

Don't think my malawis will appreciate it as much as your Oscar though

So I still have the Anubia rot, lost another plant so I am trying something different. Using freshly pressed Garlic juice and adding it to the tank since garlic has anti-viral and bacterial properties.

So I pretty much had enough of the rot issue, so I pulled all the last of the plants burned them, and removed the hardscape will decide what to do later on, but for now ill leave it like this. The plants in my HOB should pick-up the slack.

That's so unfortunate. It's almost as if fate refuses to allow plants to grow well in an Oscar tank :(

Yeah, the irony isn't lost on me. The OScar wasn't what undid my plants but rather some unknown rot...

Well is certainly cheaper since I don't need to worry about taking care of the plants anymore.

Im sorry to hear @CharlZA ,
    its really unfortunate
But, these things happen in the hobby we in, it could have been a fish that brought something into the tank and killed all your fish so.. i guess it can happen with plants too
I would give it another try... it looked so nice!!!

Not sure if you bought all the plants in one go last time or not but, i would sterilize the wood, just in case, and then get a bunch of plants all in one go to avoid the risk of a new plant contaminating your old plants at a latter stage.

    I would try...

I pretty much tried everything from bleach dipping, salt dipping, using an anti-bacterial medication, and even too putting plants in quarantine first. Also tried more frequent water changes.

If the plants weren't so damn expensive I would give it another try but I spent a couple of thousand only to watch it all slowly rot away...

So I setup the 2nd Aquaclear 110 HOB I had I didn't do it the first time around because I was afraid the flow would be too much for the 4 foot. Since each filter does around 1800lph. But after setting it up the flow look perfect so I did not need my wavemakers anymore.

And since I have terrible luck with plants I will go the same route I took with my first HOB, will pack it with the same filtration media and the load it with plants and a LED light:

True... plants are not cheap anymore...
I also spent a fortune originally trying to do some live plants in my one tank but my fish are not plant friendly... eventually also just gave up...
Its a pity this happened... looked so nice
