    Hi all,

have had a Guppy in a hatchery for 2 weeks now, she looked fat n huge and had that really black spot at the back, so i separeted her.
i had a previous one give birth and i wasent ready, but she did give birth n i still have 4 of her fry swimming around.
anyway, this one now has been in the hatchery for over 2 weeks n no show, she looks big n fat n very dark spot but no babies yet.
im just getting worried cause shes been in there for so long ( is this normal ? ) she looks and acts normal and i have two males that dont leave the side of the hatchery for no reason.

    should i just wait ?

Luis guppies give birth every 28days so if she gives birth remember the date and then next time you will know when she is close.

had my females about a week, and no not gonna keep them seperated, sometimes by doing that (ive heard) that it stresses the female, and causes her to hang on to her fry for a little while longer. So im going to let nature take its course, and let her have the fry in the community tank.

I have lots of coverage for the fry to hide in to minimalise losses, but its a good way of keeping the population regulated (incase you are worried about overpopulating your tank.)

net the fry, put them in another separation / breeding tank, leave the mom in there to drop more if she has any more.. if she hasnt dropped more after a day or so, pop her back in the community tank.

Guppy females store sperm for round about a six month period from a single mating - perpetual little brood mothers.... lave her in main tank and pop her back into trap 4 or s o days before 28 days are up from last time she dropped fry...

With time you will be able to see how the gravid spot changes/gets darker - when she is a day or so from dropping.....good luck with the pitter patter of tiny fins...

My guppy females always have a black spot, so they always look pregnant.

If you get some floating plants you should be able to leave the females with the other fish.

lol i think you will be fine with 31 guppies in a 3 foot.. as long as its only ther guppies and no big waste producers like pleco's, etc..

first see how many of the fry survives then sell or donate the unwanted extras to a petshop or see if anyone here on the forum wants them :)

you could also swop guppies for fish food or dechlorinator at a lfs..

i have an lps here in the western cape that gives me R1 per guppy lol
