    Hey Prof -

A local Vet medicine manufacturer has a product with the following ingredients

    Praziquantel - 10mg
    Pyrantel pamoate - 230mg

Are these ingredients safe for fish ???

I know Prazi is used extensivley in the US - it is the Pyrantel I have no knowledge of..

    Thanx

    Gavin

    Hi Gavin,

Yes, praziquantal is used extensively and is safe to use, but I have also never heard of this pyrantel pamoate (spelling on the last part?). I also do not know what its actions are and if unknown, my advice would be not to use it.

If you want to use praziquantal, why don't you use Droncit tablets which are used for dogs? From the label on the pack insert, they appear to only contain praziquantal. I have used these without problems.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Zafgak

Try Biltracide, its Praziquantal used for treating bilharzia in humans. Phone a couple of pharmacies and see if they have an open container. Tablets are 600mg and can be broken into quarters. If you can not come right locally, maybe one of the forum members living in KZN can get some and post to you.

Also source the petshop/ feedshop in your area that the racing pigeon guys buy from, you will be amazed at what they keep and sell over the counter, they use it as well for treating internal parasites in pigeons.
