Our power in the area will be out for 7 hours. Will my Malawi's be ok? I have a standard 4 feet tank with 8 Malawi's about 6cm size. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Martin, sjoe that is a long time! Luckily your tank is not that heavily stocked, that will help a lot. Are you running on a sump or canisters?

Sorry Martin, I have no experience with canister filters. Have been running with sumps all the time, there I know a little what to expect and to do but not on canisters. I am sure someone with canister experience will give you some useful info. Sorry, hope all works out.

In terms of filtration, with the stock in your tank, you should be ok

We have been out for over 5 hours, and my cannisters were fine
Some air in the tank is important, and i have invested in the Big Boy AC/DC pumps for my tanks but you do get the smaller ones that are battery operated and should be enough and they are not expensive.. you should be able to get one under R200. and always good to have for emergencies

    No Angotull :(
Kobusb, I'm not worried about the filter. My worries is to have air in the tank for the fish.

You will be fine. My wife forgot to turn my cichlid tank back on after I went on a business trip and oly put it back on like 12 hours later if I recall correctly. One oscar took a knock (mainly due to temp I guess as it was overnight in the heart of winter) but was fine after a two days.

Does anyone have experience with those oxygenation tablets I have seen at the LFS's. They might be an option if they are really safe?

I've looked at those, but I need about 100 tablets for my 4 feet tank. At R17 for 10 tabs I'll rather by the battery operated air pump

can you not setup a syphon system ? a length of hose with a cage on the output side..

just run it out of the tank and straight back in to keep the water moving. its a difficult balancing act but if you get the length of hose right as well as your heights you can make a circular syphon..

Maybe just grab a piece of pipe and give it a shot, you will figure out pretty quickly if you have the angles you need to create flow...

What @guillaume said, battery pump in your tank with filter media and you are good.
