    Hi All

After seeing snails post on powerheads I remember I can use TASA to my advantage when it comes to "know how". I recently purchased a couple of second hand tanks, one of which has a built in bio filter. So all is well except for the powerhead intake, needless to say it slices and dices fish that comes near it. So I replaced it with a less powerful powerhead but I would like to use the first mentioned one as it is stronger. Any ideas on how I can close the intake without burning out the motor or limiting the waterflow into the powerhead.

    Regards
    Hein

If I add mesh it will have to be a very fine mesh no idea what tipe to use.
lol I thought of that but then some of the fish will go on a supertube on your second point.

Lol haha! Lots of fun if i were a fish.
I use those scrungy bath washing scrungy thingys. You get them for like R8. Its made of flexible plastic mesh thats roled up. Get a old one and cut it up then overlay it about thrice since the mesh isnt THAT fine.

get some very fine plastic mesh, but if you use the mesh alone, the powerhead will start pull the mesh in, so get the mesh, and cut out a piece of egg crate or something similar to fit the intake nicely, attach the mesh to the eggcrate with fishing line, then put it there, can silicone it in place if you want, but if cut to perfect size, you wouldnt need to. may work.

lol nah man, egg crate is like a hard plastic grid, that will last forever in water, the guys use it in their sumps and on overflows to prevent fish taking a dive to the sump

you are going to need a small piece, so dont go buy a whole sheet unless you have other use for it.
just try and get a small piece from someone, someone who has a sump or one of the guys with a marine tank will definitely have a small piece to spare.

Use a piece of aquarium safe sponge. You will need to buy a piece and cut a whole the size of the inlet out of it, so it can fit over the inlet. Let me know if you can't find the right sponge, then I'll help you.

Cant u add a sponge filter 2 the inlet. Its a cartridge that gets added 2 the powerhead. You can get it at most Lfs

    And too many solutions!

Take bread a attach it to your inlet with gut, then wrap scrunchy plastic mesh around it and tie that with elastic. Then get those egg crates and force them over the inlet, then get a cheap comb from clicks and silicone the teeth of the egg crate.

NOW THAT SHOULD STOP FISH GETTING SUCKED IN!! YEAH!!

And probably stop WATER from getting into your filter too. (Never mind the bread fowling up everything!)

what about just adding a polishing pad instead? put it on the inside where the water passes out the power head, surely this should slow it down?
