    Hi all

Nice to be back here on TSA. Maybe its me being a bit stupid but I'm trying to find Henk Hugo's species blacklist as I would like to know are fresh water stingrays are on it. I tell you why is because I'm looking at building another custom 1120lt tank for myself (2000mm x 700mm x 800mm) and wanting to stock it with some larger fish.

Well surfing the net the other day I came across fresh water stingrays, in particular the flower stingray, which grows to an average lenth of 350mm. So back to my question, are fresh water stingrays blacklisted?

    Thanks
    Shakes

    Thanks for the info Lizid.

I've just moved into a new place and there is a perfect spot by my front entrance for this tank. The main reason for me building this new tank is because I recently bought 2 beautiful giant gourami's (they only about 10cm long at the moment) and thats going to be their new home. I'm very keen on the rays but yet two minded as from what I've read and researched over the last week is that most of the available species come from the Amazon and the water parameters for the rays(6,5ph) and the gourami's(7ph) are different. Although if they been acclimatized properly this shouldnt be a problem.

I think they are stunning fish and I always taken a little time to admire how unique and beautifully marked ocean rays that I've caught and released from the beach near my place.

I will get hold of Altum and Dolphin.

    Thanx again.

Don't go down this route... the most commonly avaliable species of freshwater ray are those in the Potamotrygon genus, and these are indeed blacklisted. The other species that do not occur on the blacklist are extrememly hard to come by and on top of it all die very, very easily. If you're willing to go through all the hassle, you may as well set up a tank just for them, just to be safe.

An easier route would be just going marine and trying out the marine rays. Much easier to come by and IMO, compared to the species of freshwater rays that you're allowed here, much hardier too.

You can apply for a permit to keep any currently blacklisted species.

Thanks for the info Salmon but I dont think I'm going to be going down that road. It was just an idea I had after seeing them on the net and National Geographic channel. Anyways, you guys must all have a fantastic week.
