    After a long wait with lots of empty promises they finally have arrived. these two little guys arrived on Thursday 10th at a size of 13 or so cm. they have been put in the pup tank along with the little guys that were born. (pups are doing well and will update soon) when I started looking and asking for the BD rays I wanted a pair (male and female) but was told they can not promise me anything. when I asked I was told that these rays pair off in the litter and you don't always get a male and female. you could get two males or two females. i have to say i was lucky enough to get a male and female.. both little ones started eating the same day they arrived. they are eating cut up hake and earthworms for now. will take some nicer pics of them in the tank...

    Awesome @Cesar. How many rays do you have now? If I may ask, how much did they set you back?

    @Vis... as far as I know and have read a female can have up to 3 batches of pups a year. interesting fact is that wile she is pregnant she is producing eggs and getting ready to be pregnant again. this is why it is always better to remove the male so that he does not course the female to abort sooner than she is suppose to. I will however only allow her to have pups twice a year as to safe guard of the health and condition of the female...

    @fishanatic ..... No it was R36000.00 for the pair. yes I know it was a lot of money however, this being a dream I've always had and a project I have undertaken. hopefully I will be as successful with breading them as I was with the Motoro cross Hybrid and in time be able to supply the south African market at a fraction of the price which we are having to pay now. as far as I know this is the only pair in SA and I felt it was worth doing.

    Well regardless of the cost. I'm glad to see that you are acting towards your dreams. I really admire you for that and your long term goal is very noble as well. I wish you success with all your efforts. Sometimes it's good to do things for ourselves for a change

    Oh how absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations and good luck with breeding them. This will be great for all of us if you get local strains going :D

    @Cesar,

    Just caught up with your new acquisitions.
    Very very nice.
    Were yours bred in SA?
    Or are they from Asian breeders?
    There are some fantastic BD coming from there.

    A few months ago I was offered BD at £650 each (approx R11,500).
    Was very very temped. But real life (school fees, car services etc) intervened. So will have to put those on hold for the mean time.

    Thanks Reedfish, yes I can only now see what all the hype is when people talk about BDs, they even more amazing to see in person than some pic. I also have to say that they are ALOT more aggressive than the normal motoros. no they are not from SA, they were brought in from Asia. I have to say one of my all time fav would have to be WBDs (white Black diamond's) and they flower ray...

    @Cesar,
    I am beyond jealous.....in the nicest possible way :D

    I have seen some tanks on MFK where people have mini ponds with about 10 different rays in.
    Something to aspire to.....one day. :rolleyes:

    Those guys tend to way overstock their Ray tanks (and other tankbusters) imo
    You often see up to 10 Rays all in 1 tank, with little room to move without having to slide over each other.
