    Hello

When cycling your tank, it helps to have mature media.
When any of you older members are doing maintenance, and have any media that you will be chucking out, post a where, when and for what filter here.

It will help the newbies to cycle in their tanks.

And I'll start with a request.
Looking for media from a fluval 1/2/3/405 canister. :)

Swapped filter this weekend. Hindsight being 20/20 should have probably kept the older one running for a while...

    Ohh that would be awesome!
Unfortunately my tank only gets some h2o today so I have nothing to contribute yet...

I was gonna post a link to an adult site... LOL!!

    Just kidding...

Not a bad idea actually, but doesn't the bacteria die after a couple of hours with zero flow going through them? Surely this would be a bad idea? Unless polluting new tanks is the desired effect?

Hence the where and when being important.

You have a good few hours.

Hi all - sorry to be the fly in the ointment so to speak - Have you considered that you may be swapping any strange sicknesses from tank to tank ????

We all quarantine fish !!!! don't we ??????? the same applies here...

Not saying dont do it - just saying be careful ...

    :hmmmm:

    +1

Why don't you guys just buy a bacterial starter kit from the LFS? Or use Seachem Stability. I used stability in a newly started tank and added Dwarf Cichlids after only 1 day. You dose stability for 5-7 days, every day and they bred for me after only 4 days in the tank.

Spoil sport. If we all had the same disease, wont it be easier to cure?

It would be easier to wipe out the human race. Anyone found a cure to the common cold yet?

A silly little disease, like ICH, if not treated early enough, can kill fish. Nevermind Velvet, Bacterial infections, parasites, HOLE IN THE HEAD disease!!

Your fish may not show signs of these illnesses, but they can still carry them.

Thats assuming you are not doing a fishless cycle.

I kinda agree - I'll have to think about using someone else's old media...

But, I'm cleaning out my Fluval 405 this weekend, if anyone's reckless enough to want someone else's media, you're welcome... :p

Even if you aren't doing a fishless cycle, you are still introducing potentially lethal parasites and bacteria into your tank.
