So I got a new 1.5m tank last week with 1 Oscar and 1 common pleco in. At first the Oscar was sulking a bit then he got over it and has been active ever since. However because I have never had an Oscar before I didn't know about popeye disease, I thought the eyes were normal. Howeved since getting the Oscar I've been reading up a lot about them and the more I look at him, the more I'm thinking he has popeye disease. His right eye is protruding a bit more than the left [IMG]

Can someone please advise me on how to treat it correctly?

Doesn't look like popeye to me. Btw : i believe popeye is a symptom (of an infection) and not a disease.

That does look like Popeye grrr.
You could try an antibacterial med or better antibiotics. Don't know if and what brands are available overthere. Maybe other member ls can jump in.

Thank you for the info! I'll need to see what hubby can bring me from PE on Thursday, locally we don't have a pet shop and the Vet only stock basic things like general tonics etc. I believe injury could have been the cause, he went mad by moving the plane around in the tank.

Hi and sorry to hear about your dilemma.

is the Oscar eating and what colour is his poop? Sometimes an internal bacteria issue or a heavy flagellate infestation may lead to an eye swelling. Oscars are quite prone to hith and so I'd like us to cover all bases here.

I'm feeding him Hikari Gold. Frozen food and freshwater guppies, also have cichlid sticks, but he won't eat that

I have no idea what it is actually bought it from a guy in PE that advertised high quality Oscar food, it is green and smells like fish, he feeds it to his Oscars and advised to feed every 2nd or 3rd day. As he fed it frozen I did not think it should be thawed? It makes a mess and to me his reaction was the same compared to the Hikari, thus he only got it twice so far.
