Um... not sure if you can get "clean pool filter sand" unless you want to pay HUGE exhorbant fees from LPS.

Come on... join the rest of us freaks and spend a few hours washing...

Yeah, that I understand. I sat for 4 hours last week Thursday hunched over my bath doing my sand. Besides the messy bathroom, the backache and the HUGE volumes of water, it wasn't too bad!

I think some LFS will make more money on pre-cleaned sand...I would charge double the price per bag :)

Yeah, I'm just saying the LFS could make more money if they clean it themselves and charge double the price.

I suggest you choose pool filter sand over play sand.

Many reasons. One of the reasons topping the list is that it looks good.

It might take some time before it is clean, but in the long run you will be smiling.

How about employing someone to clean it fo you? I suggest you do 20kg per day because its a vey strenuous exercise.

i got a method much like panning for gold :p , basicly i have a large flat dish that can take about 5kg of sand , i then take the hosepipe and stick it into the bottom and let the water flown through the sand and overflow while mixing with your hand . it takes me 1h30m for 40kg:bigsmile:

I believe Play Pen sand is also treated with salt to kill any nasties for the kids.

I know some marine guys use play sand, apparently you get a very fine white variety, so not to sure.

A lot of guys use Reggies play sand in their reef tanks. Can't see that it could be bad.
