Pool Filter Sand

Hi folks,

I have noticed that there has been a lot of demand for Pool filter sand, because the suppliers keep running out!

I have managed to find some available from Consol, which is a fairly fine grain sand, and a bit darker brown than the normal Off-white large grain sand that builders sells. I have this in a few of my tanks, and it looks awesome, and doesn't seem to suffer with the green algae build up on the more white version.

What I want to know is are any of you guys intereted in this??

As usual it is sold in 40KG bags, and I estimate cost to be around R80 to R90 a bag.

I'm afraid this is only open to Cape Town peeps as I'm not shipping 40kgs of sand across country!!

Ok, so heres a few pics...

Fisrt two pics are two different breeding tanks with this sand in, the second of which does have brown stained water from the Palm Fibre Peat, so it does darken the sand slightly.

The next two pics are the actual sand in the bags... the first is this sand, and the second is the stuff you get from builders.... Both are taken from about the same distance, so gives you an idea of how much smaller the grain size is, but from these pics the sand looks the same colour as the one from builders. It is in fact a little darker in real life!

I have one bag left here, but should be able to get hold of some more should I need to? One Bag is much more than enough for an 80L, in fact you'll find that you'll probably have half left at least? But you can keep the rest for future expansion!

Where abouts are you based??

Ok, I have the one bag here for R85, after that bag is sold, I'll have to confirm a price once I can get hold of some more, but it would be around the R80 to R90 mark.

Ok, guys..... And of course Girls!

I have one 40KG bag of Pool Filter Sand which I bought being told that it was another grade of sand, to find that it was a little too chunky for my purposes (not a see though bag). I have opened this bag, but not touched the contents!!

I paid R95 for this bag (as there was a shortage of decent PFS around!) if anyone wants, I will consider offers close to that.

I have about 5-10 kg's of similar sized sand left over from another bag, so whoever takes this bag, can have that too!!

I would not describe this as a Course sand, but could not say it was fine either, so would say semi-course??
