    Hi all!
I have read some threads online of people using pool filter sand for a reef. The opinions seem mixed..
Have you ever tried pool filter sand for a reef? I still have a bag from my freshwater tanks and thought it might save me the hassle of buying aragonite.

Silica will gi e you endless algea issues and absorb your alk and ph so crushed coral is minimum argonite is great Rather go bare bottom than silica. Also remember the trick is as little sand as possible less space for detritus to build up. No sand is great but limits you wrt fish like gobies and wrasse.

Is this for a marine tank?
If so, perhaps ask on a marine fish keeping forum. Experts there will probably be in a better position to advise you.
